Following Jesus is all about Discipleship. We take discipleship very serious at Hope Whitby. We do this on a one on one basis, in small groups, larger groups and on mission together. We aim to get better with our UP - IN - OUT relationships.
- UP - Our personal relationship with God
- IN - Our relationship with other believers
- OUT - Our relationships with those that don't have any faith or don't know Jesus
Raising Missional Disciples
We have found that creating different spaces in our mission has been very important. People are all different, and therefore not one approach will suit everybody.
We see in Jesus' ministry that He uses all these spaces in discipleship.
Gather - You can come and be lost in a crowd
Go - Come and chill out and be known/ Community groups
Grow - Know and be known / Challenge and be Challenged
Ground - Leadership, huddle and mentoring
God - God and You
We try and live by these two statements:
He gave us this Command "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbour as yourself." There is no commandment greater than these.”Mark 12:30-31 (NIV)
And this 'The Great Commission' "Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw him, they worshipped him; but some doubted. Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:16-20
Leigh and Bec invest heavily in discipleship and mentoring, both of them having their own mentors in order to help raise others up to reach their own potential.
"People are all different and have been given their own unique ways of doing things. It's not my job to change them into what I would like them to be, but to help them reach their own potential in God. God gifts us in different ways, like parts of the body. Whats the point in all being the same? None at all! My role is to help people grow and blossom into their God given role" - Leigh Coates
