Ever since I was a little girl, I have always been really rubbish at keeping secrets. When I was about six or seven I can remember vividly the moment that, after having returned from a secret shopping trip with my mum, I burst into the living room, sat on my Dad’s knee and said “Guess what Dad? We got you a shirt for your birthday!” Immediately, realising what I had done (as I saw the disappointment on my sister’s and mum’s faces!) I felt tears stinging in my eyes…I had let my Dad down! However, as quick as a flash, my Dad replied, “Ah yes, but I don’t know what colour it is now do I?” Oh the relief!
Many years later, I was expecting my first baby. I was so excited I could burst. Leigh, my husband and I had been decorating the nursery and the one thing my Dad didn’t want to know is whether we would be having a girl or a boy. So, there I was one day doing the grand tour of our house for my parents, when I flung open the small bedroom door and said “Obviously we will be painting this one pink!” (Cringe!!!)
At Hope Whitby our Go groups are there because we want to share with people that God loves them so much and wants to be in a relationship with them. So, our Go groups are our way of telling people that great news….which is good for me and my track record of keeping secrets ;)
Let me give you a snapshot of each Go Group.
The Hope Hub is not to be missed! Music - meets life - meets cake! Come to our fifth birthday on May 18th!
HYP (Hope Youth Project) and HI:5 (for our youngest people) share news, encourage each other, play games, hear exciting stories, sing songs and do craft finishing with a free meal together and celebrating any birthdays in the ‘family’ ….did I mention we love cake at Hope Whitby?!!!!! It’s such an amazing movement to be a part of…and I love seeing the kids turn up each week, so excited and happy.
Hope Stakesby is our Go group for those who live in the sheltered accommodation at Marton Court (and those living nearby) and their families to meet new friends, build community and hear life changing stories whilst enjoying a few hymns and some 60’s music. Not forgetting, finishing off with afternoon tea!
Community RS (a Go Group operating in the Ravenscar and Staintondale area) and Imagine (a Go group in Fylingthorpe) are groups that meet the needs of their villages, using Alpha as their main vehicle.
Family Fun is a once a month service in Fylingthorpe Chapel on the second Sunday of the month at 4pm. We have lots of fun, play exciting games, hear life changing stories, do a craft and eat our tea together afterwards. In the summer each year, we hold a free community BBQ that, this year, is on July 8th at 4pm.
If you would like to see how any or all of Hope Whitby runs then why not come along to any of our groups. You can be sure of a warm welcome and a loving family to be a part of!
