Is it just me or does everyone think ‘what if’?
I mean there are some big questions in life that no one can really answer but that said I don’t think ignorance is an adequate way out.
What if Charles Darwin was right and we all evolved from a pool of bacteria that had conditions just perfect to start life? What if the world is billions of years old, and we all started from one stem? What if God created the world perfectly in 6 days and it’s only a few thousand years old? My cousin will say to me “Why not start with a giant spaghetti monster” or something along those lines!
For me, I’m not really that fussed about any of those theories. Personally, I think that they all (apart from the spaghetti monster) point back to ‘Someone must have started them off’ and to be honest that is enough for me.
I guess the hard part is ‘What if there is more after this life’ and that is where my journey began. Going to Iraq was like ‘Hell on earth’ and in a sense ‘scared the Hell out of me’!
I’m far from perfect, but I take great comfort in a loving creator God and for all the bad stuff that goes on in the world and for all the ‘what if’s and stuff I don’t understand (some stuff in the Bible too) Jesus is the only way to Heaven. Such an exclusive statement may grate on the postmodern ear, but it is true nonetheless. The Bible teaches that there is no other way to salvation than through Jesus Christ. Jesus Himself says in John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” He is not a way, as in one of many; He is the way, as in the one and only. No one, regardless of reputation, achievement, special knowledge, or personal holiness, can come to God the Father except through Jesus.
Eternal life in Heaven is made possible only through Christ. Jesus prayed, “Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent” (John 17:3). To receive God’s free gift of salvation, we must look to Jesus and Jesus alone. We must trust in Jesus’ death on the cross as our payment for sin and in His resurrection. “This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe” (Romans 3:22).
