The Wobble Room

Good morning everyone.

I hope that you are all well as we embrace the month of September

I wanted to share something today that I saw during lockdown. It is something that the NHS used for ‘wobble rooms’ – a place where staff could go when they needed to get away from the pressure and strain that Covid brought. The signs on the walls read –

“You are not alone. Kindness will get us through. Embrace the Challenge. Look after each other. You are stronger than you think.”

It got me thinking what for us, is our ‘wobble room’?

And also…that it’s ok to have a wobble!

But remember..

You are not alone! We have a family in Hope Whitby and what a privilege that is! Families love and look after each other. We have, and will, keep meeting, keep checking on one another and keep being real and honest.

Kindness will get us through! Kindness. It’s a beautiful quality and feels so good to show that to one another. But today I want to remind you that it’s also important to be kind to yourselves. Take time out to rest. Relax and recharge.

Embrace the Challenge! Whatever your personal challenge is today – and this will be so different for everyone, try to embrace it. See that not everything in life can stay the same – and that the darker days will pass. But also, remember to talk to those around you, those who love you and will support you through those difficult times. We at Hope Whitby will listen to anyone who needs that listening ear.

Look after each other! We strive for unity when we look after each other, and we have seen deepening of relationships through this. We are a Christian community who loves and makes meaningful connections with each other.

You are stronger than you think! This has been the most beautiful thing over what has been a very tough few years for us as a community building up after covid. We have, as a community, seen courage, creativity and compassion. Our period poverty campaign was launched in 2020, Beacons prayer has flourished, our Malachi Storehouse Foodbank has been well placed to provide the community with food and clothes. Hope Gives Hope (warm space) launched in 2022, and Hope Does Holidays in 2023.

Be encouraged! In this season we continue to show love to a community we love. To have deep and full conversations with one another. To journey deeper with our God. A season where people have stepped up, tried new things, shared a phone call with someone in need, taken a food hamper. A season where we have laughed at trying new things. A season we have stood, cried, and laughed with each other. A season when we have taken the time to realise how deeply we need one another on this journey with God. This is a season to remember that we are not alone, that kindness will get us through, that we embrace this challenge, that we look after each other and that you are stronger than you think.

Thank you, Whitby, for your support of Hope Whitby.
